Skills Toolbox > Organising Events > Beginner's Guide > The Logical Way to start designing

You can start your planning by working through these questions:

- Why do you want to have an event?
- What is the aim of this event? What do you want to achieve?
- Who is the event for? Whom do you want to benefit or reach?
- What are their needs or interests?
- How will you know that the event is a success, the aims have been achieved, the needs met? Be specific – what will it look like, what will people say, how will they be reacting?
- What features would your successful event have?

You should now be able to draw up an outline for ‘what’ your event is; including the subject or topic you will engage with, the kind of activity and the format your event will have.
