Skills Toolbox > Organising Events > Beginner's Guide > Tips on planning an all-day event

- Introduce variety: a day full of speakers can be tedious and lead to information overload
- Have smaller group sessions or workshops to maximise participation and interaction.
- Have some really creative or unusual formats like ‘poster conversations’ or an area or time where a ‘world café’ is set up.
- Follow people’s natural cycles of attention and energy. Don’t put long speeches on after heavy meals or at four in the afternoon when most people’s energy dips. Four in the afternoon is a good time for a ‘world café’. After lunch or long periods spent sitting is a good time for ‘poster conversations’.
