FlashPOD Talk Topic: Drug abuse

Location (Place, City): Bradford

Name of Blogger: Abdul

Names of participants: Amar, Abdul, Sajed, Razwann, Harris and Khizer

The Emotional Barometer [1 (very calm) to 10 (very heated)]: 6

The Quality of the Discussion [1 (poor) to 10 (excellent)]: 8

Key issues/questions about the topic:

What are the reasons that young people take drugs? What can we do about it?

What were the initial opinions of the talkers?

Sajid: he said that you can not just say and label all muslims as drug abusers because there are different nationalities for this. There are different ethnic backgrounds to it. And the solution is that they shoud accept or tell someone there problems and face them.

Razwann: Smoking starts it and leads to major drugs. Education is lacking.

Khizer: People see the money aspect of it and because they do not have money they see that as the easy way.

Amar: Alcohol is closely linked with drugs and can lead to it.

Harris: They do not have good role models because their parents do not have a good education.

Abdul: The solution is find better role models, better family values and education values.

How did opinions change during the FlashPOD Talk?

We talked some about the problem of alchohol as well, and if it is possible to convince people not to do something if they don't think it's wrong.

What positive actions will our FlashPOD take based on our discussion?

-Get kids to go community centres, go around area to go to community centre don’t go to the spot where smoke and go centre
-Go and volunteer at community centre and you the don’t get money and this will help them get it.
-Make a film comparing doctor's life to a drug dealer. This can show young people about better role models.
-Make a donation to drug organisation
-Talk to my cousin who is 9 before he might get into trouble later.

i agree that young people need to be provided with better rolemodel choices. Its not enough to say, follow the prophet, hes your role model and excuse ourselves of the responsibility. This is a here and now issue we need to show youth by example!
