The practices that show reverence to the Prophet (pbuh) differ according to different schools, customs and cultures, but we make some generalisations here.
- When the name of the Prophet is mentioned Muslims are strongly encouraged to wish him peace [peace be upon him and his family and his companions].
- The Prophet (and also other prophets) should not be depicted in drawings according to many traditions in Islam.
- Showing disrespect to the Prophet (pbuh)by making jokes about him or speaking of him in derogatory terms is likely to cause hurt and cause offence to Muslims.
- The Prophet (pbuh) is treated as a human being and not as a divine figure.
