Fundraising or receipt of funds is occurring and I don't know what for, but I have reason to be concerned about the destination of the funds.

Worried by fundraising

Raising funds for charitable causes is an important part of an ethical life; but it is important to be conscientious about it. A conversation with the students concerned may provide welcome reassurance about the situation. It can be difficult for students to know where the money does in fact end up. If you feel they have not investigated the situation sufficiently, you can ask them to look into some facts about the organisation, such as:

- What are the aims and objectives of the organisation?
- What principal activities does it carry out?
- Does it have an official existence (is it a registered charity, non-profit-making company, official student organisation, etc.)?
- Does it have any promotional literature giving more information about its aims, objectives, activities?
- Who are the named people responsible for this organisation?

Check for the credentials of the cause. Information about registered charities can be obtained from the Charity Commission website.

The Home Office maintains a Financial Financial Sanctions page, which covers regimes and organisations, etc.

Encourage students to operate good financial controls regardless of the cause or charity concerned.
