What provisions should we make on campus for prayer for Muslim students?

Provisions for prayer

The University has a responsibility to try to meet the needs and requirements of its students and takes into account what requirements might be needed by some students. Because Muslims are required to pray five times a day, the provision of prayer facilities on campus can make a critical difference to their study. The need to leave the campus to find an appropriate place to pray can be very disruptive of the study timetable.

Prayer rooms have specific requirements that need to be taken into account when choosing and furnishing a room. Because these are quite specific, it can more complex than it seems to ask Muslims to share an existing 'multi-faith' prayer room.

Some institutions set down guidelines on who can lead the prayers in the rooms on their premises. If you are concerned about the influence that outside individuals may have over your students, you can implement a similar policy.
