Under suspicion

What evidence do you have for this? And if so, why is this happening? Is it a misunderstanding on their part of religious practice, concepts like jihad, and so on? Is it hostility to Islam generally? Is it because of events or activities that you are holding, or how some people are conducting themselves?

You need to clarify exactly what is happening, by whom and to whom in order to know whether and how to act. Use this tool to analyse the situation. This should help you to gain some understanding of the situation. If you want to use the whole problem-solving tool this comes from, you'll find it here.

Think carefully about what style of response you should make. You might want something very upfront and direct, if there is strongly inappropriate treatment going on. On the other hand, changing people's perceptions of you or of Muslims generally might be, long-term, the more powerful strategy and lead to a longer-term transformation.

Wherever the problem lies — the answer will be found in communication. What and with whom only you can answer, depending on the specifics of your situation. But skills of good and ethical communication can be more generic. See the links on the right, 'More Campusalam'.

You might also like to reflect on how emotions can affect our thought and reasoning — that might play a role in this problem.

Why not be proactive, creative, and positive? Think of an activity or event you could create and invite people to.
