We are excluded from student social events because alcohol is served

This is likely due not to deliberate exclusion but to ignorance or misunderstanding. Even when people know that Muslims don't drink alcohol – and some people don't know this or might sometimes forget to take it into account – many will assume that Muslims can just drink soft drinks at the event and therefore there is no problem. As some Muslims are comfortable doing this, it is easy for non-Muslims not to realise that some Muslims will feel uncomfortable attending the event if alcohol is served.

An obvious point would be to suggest that some events at least are alcohol-free. It is likely that you will have to compromise on there being some events with alcohol and some without.

Sharpen up your communication skills, if necessary, before opening up negotiations with the appropriate people.
