Our university won't provide halal food

Halal food

Universities are increasingly making provision for specific requirements of their students and staff, such as dietary needs. If your university does not do this, it could be ignorance rather than active resistance.

Speak to other Muslim students to ascertain the scale of demand. Getting specific figures helps - it provides objective evidence for decision-makers. If vegan or vegetarian food is not provided, or kosher food, speak to other students who might also have dietary needs based on religious or ethical principles and enlist their co-operation and support.

Ascertain who would be the right person in authority or the key decision-maker on this issue. Write to them explaining the need, why it is an important need, and giving the evidence of the scale of the demand. Be sure to give information about what concretely is required. Give them sources of authoritative information such as websites or leaflets. Ask for a meeting to discuss the issue.
