Welcome Vloggers for Change

Module 1 (30 minutes) gives an introduction to the world of vlogging and what you can achieve through this project.

Introduction

Thank you for volunteering to be a vlogger for change. You are part of an exciting pilot project to spread the word about young people making a difference in their communities. We think that you have an important story to tell, and we want to help you tell it.

In the past 10 years, high speed internet access, cheaper video cameras and simpler computer editing software have made it possible for almost anyone to be a journalist or filmmaker. What would once required a career choice, years of training and hundreds of thousands of pounds can now be done by any of us with just a few hours of training and a little cash for a camera. These modules will help you join the community of vloggers who are spotlighting stories and spreading messages often overlooked by mass media.

Module 1 Content

1. Watch this video on citizen journalism for more on how vloggers can have an influence on society. This comes from our friends at freevlog.org who will be helping us a lot along the way.

2. Now take a look at this page of stories of young people making a difference. Makes you wonder why we don't know more about people like them.

3. Lastly, go to www.youtube.com and search for videos using the key words "young people activism making difference uk" or words like that. Find any interesting videos? I think you will see there is a gap for your video to go online!

Module 1 Assignment (Please write short answers to these questions in the Comment Box).

  • Q1: What do you hope to accomplish by sharing the story of your community project?
  • Q2:  What support do you think you will need to be able to tell the story well?
  • Q3: Write the link for any interesting videos you found on YouTube about young people making a difference.

Note: If you have not yet registered for www.campusalam.org, you will need to do that before you can comment. Instructions on registering can be found here.
