Looking ahead

So you had a successful event: now what? Did the event meet all your aims? Would you like to move on to something else? Would you like to continue with a similar event?

Investigate other possibilities in this toolkit/resource pack, or contact Lokahi.

How to avoid your event being just another talking shop:

  • See if a consensus is reached on an issue - can that lead to practical action, ways forward?
  •  Or the opposite: is there a debate that needs to be continued? A dispute or conflict that needs resolving? More work that needs to be done to understand the issue, or reach a consensus?
  • On the day get views and ideas from participants about practical actions that can be taken on the issue. Are there creative ideas, activist interventions, practical steps? Further research, thinking, discussion?
  • Should a new group be formed to take this issue forward?
  • Any ideas for projects to implement ideas or resolutions?
  • Any new needs identified that can be met through projects, activities, events?
  • Include questions aimed at these points in your feedback form or questionnaire.
  • Take some kind of follow-up action after the event. Contact people. Identify an 'action step' that can be done to progress the issue or project.
