One way to do this is to use your imagination to picture negative scenarios that could happen. Or use your reasoning to analyse potential problem situations that could arise. You could approach it from each of these angles:
- What might the speaker do?
- What might his or her followers do?
- What might his or her opponents do?
- How might your audience treat the speaker?
- What about the people in the middle? How might they react?
- What impact would there be on other people in your environment or community? On Muslims? Other students? University authorities? Anyone who might be the target of hatred or hostility as a result of the event?
- Do you have critics or adversaries who might use it against you?
- Is it likely the media might get a hold of it and create adverse publicity?
- What impact might it have on those of you who have organised it?
- Would it damage relations between communities?
- Would it attract suspicion or attention from police or other authorities?
- Might there be safety or security problems might anyone be threatened as a result?
Then you can make up a list of situations you want to avoid.
